"Cakes near me"
Will They Find You?Get More Cake Orders by Making Your Business Easy to Find on Google
Most bakers ignore Google Business Profile, not realizing how much it could change their business.
They focus heavily on Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp but overlook the fact that when people in their area search for “cakes near me” or “birthday cake in [your city],” Google is usually the first place they check.
By neglecting this free tool, bakers miss out on a steady stream of local customers who are actively looking to buy. It’s like leaving money on the table simply because they don’t know the power of being visible on Google
That’s exactly why I’ve decided to show you how to set up and optimize your Google Business Profile from scratch. No assumptions, no complicated tech talk, just simple steps that any baker can follow.
By the time you’re done, you’ll know exactly how to make your business visible on Google and start attracting customers who are already searching for cakes near you.
It is a free online tool that enables business owners to manage their online presence across Google to help customers find your business with ease.
The first thing anyone does when they want to buy anything is to search on Google. So here’s the question you should be asking yourself…
“Is my business googleable?” If yes, Can it be found on the first page of google search results?
It is not enough to have a business that shows up on Google. It is also very important to have this business properly optimized for visibility.
That means, Google would rank your business high on search results if optimized properly. Even top celebrity bakers use Google Business Profiles to stay visible and attract more high-paying clients.
So I hear you ask…
Okay, Jacqueline! I have heard you. But how exactly can I implement this in my own baking business?
STEP 1 & 2: How To Create and Verify A Google Business Profile The Right Way
Google Business Profile Verification Methods
1. Call
2. Text/SMS
3. Email
4. Instant verification
5. Video (This would work only if you have a physical store)
During profile setup, you will be given any of the above options to verify.

Google support may request certain documents to verify your ownership.

Storefront or signage photo (if you run a physical store, based on Google’s feedback).
You can also contact Google support via twitter @GoogleMybiz or @GoogleSmallBiz
Note: Try verifying on your own first or contact Google Support on Twitter before submitting the complaint form.

Note: You don’t need an official business registration document or a physical store to set up a Google Business Profile. Feel free to register your business even if you are a home baker.
While official business registration is important, it’s not compulsory.
The real challenge comes if your profile isn’t verified and you need to contact Google Support. They may request proof like a storefront photo or ownership documents.

STEP 3: Why Keyword Research Is Important
The very first step to having a properly optimized business profile is carrying out an extensive keyword research
Keywords are those words or phrases(group of words) common to your business register or vocabulary.
They are words or phrases which your prospective clients would most likely type on google search if they are trying to find your kind of business.
Examples of keywords or phrases could be: “Cake shop near me” , “Best cakes in [your city]” , “[your city] baker” , “whipped cream cake in [city]” Etc
So when someone searches for a phrase say “Best cake shop near me” Or “Affordable kiddies cake“
Your business comes up because google found the keyword “Cake shop” , “Affordable” , “Kiddies” or any of those words somewhere in your Google Business Profile. That’s how keywords work!
Google will work for you when you have proper keywords in place.
Keyword research is done based on location and the type of products you have to sell. For example:
Location: Cake shop in [Your town or city], Best bakery in [Your town or city]
Service type: Kiddies character birthday cake , wedding cakes, graduation cakes, adult birthday cakes
Industry based keyword research. Type of business: Cake shop, Bakery
Products: Vanilla Cake, strawberry cake, chocolate cakes, coconut cake etc
Type of frosting: whipped cream, buttercream, fondant etc
Note: You should create your keywords to suit the services your business offers. Do not limit yourself, write as many keywords as possible.

This is where your keywords come in to play. First, you should know where exactly to place these keywords
There are a couple of places we can place our keywords:
1. When writing business description
2. When writing description for photos and posts
3. When responding to reviews
4. When adding product description
5. When creating and replying to frequently asked questions
